About Us
General Information
burundiorphans.org is a 501 C3 non-profit corporation located in Rochester, NY. Our purpose is to raise funds to support the orphan programs run by Youth for Christ Burundi and YMCA Burundi. A personal connection with and praying for the orphans is encouraged. We are an all-volunteer organization. All collected funds go directly to these organizations in Burundi minus 8% for credit card processing fees, accounting and legal fees. Various other expenses are paid for by donations from the board members and others.

We believe that we are called to this mission and find great joy in being part of something intended to glorify God. Some of our team are in Rochester, NY and some in Burundi. We all work together, communicating often through WhatsApp. Visits to Burundi are encouraged to strengthen the ties and friendships that have been established.
Wars and Conflicts
The lives of people in Burundi have been greatly affected by the ongoing wars and conflicts in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Burundi shares a border with the DRC where much of the violence takes place. Burundi has thousands of soldiers fighting in the DRC. It is a complex situation that is explained well in a variety of YouTube videos.

Historically, Rap music has not generally been associated with Christian beliefs and ethics. However, that is changing. This music video energetically describes the plight of orphans in Burundi and some of the political and social factors associated with their struggle. The rap style hopefully will reach different groups that might not otherwise encounter this message.
